The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, commonly known as AITSL, is the government-designated authority responsible for assessing teacher qualifications for skilled migration purposes. It evaluates whether your academic background, initial teacher education, supervised teaching practice, and English language proficiency are aligned to Australian standards.
Unlike most skilled occupations, this is a purely qualifications-based assessment. What matters is how your degree and teacher training are documented.
Teachers applying for the following Australian skilled visas must obtain a positive outcome before lodging a visa application:
Note: Primary School Teacher (ANZSCO 241213) is currently listed on the STSOL, making it ineligible for the Subclass 189 visa, but you can apply through Subclass 190 or Subclass 491 pathways.

Service | Fee (AUD) |

Processing Time: Most complete, assessment-ready applications are finalized within 4 to 6 weeks from submission. Uncertified translations, incorrect occupation checklists, incomplete applications, and missing documents all result in delays that cannot be corrected. Priority processing is not available.
Important: An appeal costs almost as much as the original application. That’s why getting your submission right the first time is always the most cost-effective approach.
Applying for a teacher skills assessment can be more complicated than it seems. Choosing a wrong occupation, an incomplete work experience record, or a minimum IELTS score can result in delays of results or even rejection or a costly appeal (which carries the same fee as the original application).
